The Market

Why New Jersey Is a Top-Tier Personal Injury Market

New Jersey is the most densely populated state in the country, with roughly 9.3 million residents packed into 21 counties along the Northeast Corridor. The state runs more than 270,000 reportable crashes per year, has heavy truck and freight traffic feeding Port Newark / Elizabeth (the largest container port on the East Coast), one of the busiest commuter networks in the US, and a verbal-threshold no-fault system that puts a real premium on screening discipline. The combination produces one of the deepest and highest-value PI dockets in the Northeast.

Real Search Intent

Every lead actively typed a legal-intent query into Google. High-intent search converts 15% to 30% for most PI firms, versus 1% to 3% for social-media-sourced leads. Declared intent, not inferred interest.

Exclusive, 1 Firm Per Lead

Never shared. Aggregators sell the same lead to 3 to 5 firms simultaneously, dividing your conversion rate by the same factor. Ours go to one firm only, period.

Pre-Screened

Injured. Unrepresented. Clear fault. Within statute of limitations. Many leads come in within 1-30 days of the accident. Represented, out-of-statute, or borderline-fault prospects never reach your intake team.

Coverage

Case Types We Generate Across New Jersey

Every major New Jersey personal injury practice area. Target a single case type, a subset, or the full spectrum. All pricing is per lead, no practice-area bundling required. All leads are pre-screened: injured, unrepresented, clear fault, and within SOL. Many leads come in within 1-30 days of the accident.

Car Accident (Auto / MVA)

Avg case value: $25K to $150K+

The largest-volume NJ PI category. Heavy commuter traffic, the Garden State Parkway, NJ Turnpike, I-78, I-80, and I-287 corridors all feed it. We run a dedicated program and state page for NJ auto and MVA.

New Jersey deep dive

Slip & Fall / Premises Liability

Avg case value: $15K to $75K (severe: $250K+)

One of the highest sustained-volume categories in our NJ program. Retail, restaurant, apartment, hotel, casino, and parking-lot falls. Stewart v. 104 Wallace St. (1981) extends commercial-premises duty to abutting public sidewalks. Screened for actual or constructive notice and comparative fault.

Wrongful Death

Avg case value: $500K to $5M+

2-year SOL from date of death under N.J.S.A. 2A:31-3. Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, and Camden venues historically produce the highest NJ wrongful-death verdicts. PI heirs may file under the NJ Survival Act in parallel.

Truck & Commercial Vehicle

Avg case value: $100K to $2M+

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations violations, multiple liable parties, high commercial insurance limits. NJ Turnpike, I-78, and Port Newark / Elizabeth freight traffic drive consistently high-value cases.

Motorcycle

Avg case value: $50K to $300K+

Higher injury severity due to lack of vehicle protection. NJ motorcyclists are exempt from the verbal threshold under N.J.S.A. 39:6A-8 because motorcycles are not subject to AICRA, so non-economic damages are recoverable without threshold proof.

Rideshare (Uber / Lyft)

Avg case value: $30K to $200K+

$1.5M TNC liability coverage applies during a ride under N.J.S.A. 39:5H-10, materially higher than personal auto policy minimums. Dense Newark, Jersey City, and Hoboken rideshare volume produces a consistent stream of these claims.

Dog Bite

Avg case value: $20K to $100K+

Strict liability under N.J.S.A. 4:19-16. No one-bite rule. NJ is one of the most plaintiff-friendly dog bite states in the country: any bite to a person lawfully present creates liability regardless of prior knowledge of viciousness.

Workplace & Construction

Avg case value: $75K to $1M+

Third-party liability claims beyond workers compensation under N.J.S.A. 34:15-40. Port Newark / Elizabeth, Newark Liberty Airport expansion, and Hudson Yards-adjacent NJ side projects drive a steady construction caseload. Subject to the comp lien on third-party recovery.

Product Liability

Avg case value: $75K to $2M+

Defective product, design defect, failure to warn. Governed by the NJ Products Liability Act (N.J.S.A. 2A:58C-1 et seq.). Atlantic and Middlesex counties carry significant pharmaceutical and medical device docket volume; Camden carries high-value verdicts.

Medical malpractice is available in New Jersey on a limited, by-request basis only. Most med-mal firms source through medical professional referral networks rather than paid search.

The Law

New Jersey Personal Injury Law: Quick Reference

General PI Statute of Limitations

2 years

N.J.S.A. 2A:14-2. Covers auto, premises / slip and fall, dog bite, product liability, and general negligence. Discovery rule applies; minors tolled to age 18 under N.J.S.A. 2A:14-21.

Wrongful Death SOL

2 years

From date of death under N.J.S.A. 2A:31-3. Survival Act claims (NJSA 2A:15-3) run from date of injury, not death.

Tort Claims Notice (Public Entity)

90 days

N.J.S.A. 59:8-8. Required before suing the State, NJDOT, county, or municipality. Suit must follow within 2 years. Most common procedural trap on NJ public-entity files.

Fault Rule

Modified Comparative, 50% Bar

N.J.S.A. 2A:15-5.1. Plaintiff recovers only if their fault is "not greater than" defendants' combined fault. Barred at 51%+. NOT pure comparative.

Auto: Choice No-Fault (AICRA)

Verbal Threshold or Full Tort

N.J.S.A. 39:6A-8(a). Verbal-threshold plaintiffs must clear 1 of 6 categories (death, dismemberment, significant disfigurement, displaced fractures, fetal loss, permanent injury w/ objective proof) for non-economic damages.

Min Auto Liability (current)

25/50/25

$25K BI per person, $50K per accident, $25K PD. Mandatory PIP. $250K PIP mandatory for catastrophic injuries regardless of tort option.

Min Auto Liability (eff. 1/1/2026)

35/70/25

NJ DOBI Bulletin 25-06. First minimum-limits increase in over 50 years. More dollars in the minimum-limits pool starting 1/1/2026.

Damages Caps

No comp cap; 5x or $350K punitive

No cap on compensatory damages (economic or pain & suffering). Punitive cap: greater of 5x compensatory or $350,000 under N.J.S.A. 2A:15-5.14, with carve-outs for bias crimes and child sex abuse.

Dog Bite

Strict Liability

N.J.S.A. 4:19-16. No one-bite rule. Owner liable to any person lawfully present, regardless of prior knowledge of viciousness. Among the most plaintiff-friendly dog bite statutes in the US.

Med-Mal Affidavit of Merit

60 days

N.J.S.A. 2A:53A-27. Required filing of an Affidavit of Merit from a like-licensed expert within 60 days of the answer (extendable to 120). Failure typically results in dismissal.

Top Claim-Volume Counties

Essex | Hudson | Bergen | Middlesex | Monmouth | Ocean | Camden | Mercer | Passaic | Union

Highest sustained PI lead volume concentrates in Newark (Essex), Jersey City (Hudson), Bergen, Edison and Woodbridge (Middlesex), Monmouth, Toms River and Lakewood (Ocean), Camden, Trenton and Hamilton (Mercer), Paterson (Passaic), and Elizabeth (Union).

General reference only. Confirm current statutes, caps, and procedural rules for each case with your compliance counsel.

Effective January 1, 2026

NJ Auto Minimum Limits Rise to 35/70/25 in 2026

Under NJ DOBI Bulletin 25-06, minimum auto liability limits jump from $25K/$50K bodily injury and $25K property damage to $35K/$70K and $25K effective January 1, 2026. This is New Jersey's first minimum-limits increase in more than 50 years. Every NJ auto policy that renews after 1/1/2026 will carry materially more insurance dollars at the minimum-limits end of the market, which pulls case values up on the margin. Firms with active NJ auto dockets should expect demand-package math to shift gradually through 2026 as renewing policies wash through the in-force book.

Real Outcomes

Notable New Jersey Personal Injury Verdicts Across Practice Areas

Representative New Jersey outcomes drawn from public verdict reporters and reported settlements across practice areas. New Jersey's Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, and Camden venues historically produce the state's highest verdicts, but the state's 50% comparative bar and AICRA verbal threshold mean intake screening discipline is what consistently moves files into the upper end of these ranges. Past results do not guarantee future outcomes; each case depends on its specific facts and venue.

$45M+

Product Liability / Mass Tort

Atlantic County Pharmaceutical Verdicts

New Jersey Atlantic County mass-tort docket has produced multiple eight- and nine-figure verdicts across the past several years on pharmaceutical and medical-device cases governed by the NJ Products Liability Act, with several individual plaintiff verdicts in the $40M to $100M+ range before settlement and remittitur.

$15M

Med-Mal / Birth Injury

Camden County Medical Malpractice

Reported eight-figure verdicts in Camden County for delayed-diagnosis and birth-injury cases reflect the upper range of NJ med-mal outcomes. Affidavit of Merit and like-licensed expert support under N.J.S.A. 2A:53A-27 is decisive.

$8.4M

Trucking / Wrongful Death

NJ Turnpike Trucking Wrongful Death

Representative settlement for a fatal commercial-truck collision on the NJ Turnpike. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations violations and multiple-defendant exposure (driver, motor carrier, broker, shipper) drive these results.

$5.5M

Pedestrian / MVA

Essex County Pedestrian Wrongful Death

Newark-area pedestrian-fatality settlement. NJ's dense urban grid produces a disproportionate share of pedestrian fatalities relative to vehicle-miles-traveled, particularly in Essex, Hudson, and Camden counties.

$3.2M

Workplace / Third-Party

Middlesex County Construction Fall

Third-party liability recovery beyond workers compensation under N.J.S.A. 34:15-40 for a multi-story construction fall. Subject to the comp lien on the recovery; common pattern on NJ construction files.

$2.4M

Slip and Fall / Premises

Hudson County Premises Liability

Representative outcome for a fall on a commercial-property abutting public sidewalk in Jersey City. Stewart v. 104 Wallace St. duty applies; surveillance preservation and incident-report timing typically decide these files.

$1.85M

Dog Bite / Premises

Bergen County Dog Bite (Strict Liability)

Severe-laceration dog-attack settlement. NJ's strict-liability statute (N.J.S.A. 4:19-16) eliminates the prior-knowledge hurdle and consistently produces faster resolutions and cleaner demand math than one-bite states.

$1.4M

Auto / Verbal Threshold

Monmouth County Rear-End MVA

Verbal-threshold rear-end case that cleared the permanent-injury category through objective MRI evidence and surgical intervention. Mid-range NJ auto outcome where threshold proof is documented early.

ExclusiveTransparent PricingPre-ScreenedReal-Time Delivery

Most firms pay less per signed case with us. Per-lead industry averages assume the lead is shared 3 to 5 ways. Ours never are. That math compounds: lower per-lead spend, higher conversion, more signed cases, fatter margins.

Real New Jersey pricing depends on your counties and case-type mix. We can quote it via call, email, or text. No sales call required. No contracts, no minimums, no setup fees.
